According to the latest data released by the Swedish Steel Producers' Association (Jernkontoret), in February this year Swedish crude steel production amounted to 338,700 metric tons, decreasing by 10.5 percent year on year and down 8.6 percent as compared to January. The country's crude steel output has been declining on year-on-year basis since June 2011.

In the first two months of 2013, Swedish crude steel production totaled 709,300 mt, with a decrease of 10.6 percent compared to the same period of 2012.

Jernkontoret indicates that Sweden's exports of finished steel, including blooms and billets, in 2012 amounted to 3.56 million mt, down 8.4 percent compared to 2011. Swedish finished steel imports last year totaled 3.4 million mt, down 9.8 percent compared to 2011. In 2012, deliveries of finished steel products, including plate, strip, wire, rod, profiles and tubes, from Swedish steelworks amounted to 3.3 million mt, down 15.6 percent compared to 2011, while most of the deliveries were destined for export markets.
